N gauge trains are ideal for hobbyists who are engaged into running long trains with limited space and modelling with realistic scenery. On the N scale layout, dwarfing the locomotive, rolling stock, buildings, and others are being done to fit the layout table. The popularity of N gauge trains has reached different parts of the world and it is still growing each day. Up to the present it remains the second most popular model having the HO model occupying the first seat except in Japan.

In Japan because of the limited space that they have, N gauge trains became their number choice in modelling railroads. British N scale is slightly different from the standard N gauge. It has 1:148 scales only, but its track still runs at 9mm. It was in Britain that the N gauge models were introduced in 1961 under the Lone Star manufacturer. In 1962 the birth of modern electrified N gauge railroad hobby arises. Today the Pacific Desert Lines is the largest N gauge layouts in the world it is located at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. A book was published in 1978 entitled “Modelling the Clinchfield in N scale” it was written by the late Gordon Odegard.
